Drawing on data from a large-scale international study [PIDOP – Processes Influencing Democratic Ownership and Participation. 2009–2012. Accessed August 10. http://www.fahs.surrey.ac.uk/pidop/index.htm], the present research examined psychological and demographic factors related to civic and political participation among adolescents and young adults (from 16 to 26 years of age) with a Turkish origin and residing in Belgium (n = 153), Germany (n =…

  • Bandes urbaines et groupes délinquants en Belgique. Représentations et savoirs

    Open Access•Line Witvrouw1, Line Witvrouw et al.•ARTICLE•Criminologie•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 12

The goal of this study was to identify the predictors and the moderators of group characteristics that influence deviancy and normative training processes in delinquent male adolescents. The authors experimentally tested the effects of group composition on deviant talk interaction processes among groups in which all members presented delinquent behaviors (“pure” delinquent group condition), those that included adolescents with no delinquent behav…

Two studies were conducted addressing (a) the role of parents’ participation and the moderating role of adolescent gender and age group ( n = 1419) and (b) the role of adolescent social and civic participation and the moderating role of adolescen…

  • Non-conventional/illegal political participation of male and female youths

    Open Access•Claire Gavray, Bernard Fournier et al.•ARTICLE•Human Affairs•2012•Cited by: 4•References: 11

Belgian data from the PIDOP project show that boys are more involved than girls in illegal political actions, namely the production of graffiti and other acts of “incivility”. These activities must be considered in both groups as complementary to conventional political and social participation and not as their opposite. The main explanatory factor is the level of the perceived efficaciousness of such actions. The lack of trust in institutions and…

  • Intervention in juvenile delinquency

    Open Access•Michel Born•ARTICLE•Criminologie•2007•Cited by: 1
