  • Exploring the Health Research Priorities of the South Asian Community in British Columbia

Open Access•A S Sidhu, Sonia Singh et al.•ARTICLE•Progress in community health…•2025

Background: South Asian Canadians are not proportionally represented as participants in health research studies and can be attributed to participant-related and researcher-related factors. Objectives: The South Asian Health Research Collaborative aimed to determine the top 10 health research priorities for the South Asian community by building engagement in health research. Methods: South Asian Health Research Collaborative convened researchers, …

  • Measures and metrics

    M Newman, M E J Newman•CHAPTER•NETWORKS: AN INTRODUCTION•2010

If we know the structure of a network we can calculate from it a variety of useful quantities or measures that capture particular features of the network topology. This chapter looks at some of these measures, including degree centrality, eigenvector centrality, Katz centrality, transitivity, reciprocity, and similarity. Exercises are provided at the end of the chapter.

  • The Structure and Function of Complex Networks

    M Newman, M E J Newman•ARTICLE•SIAM Review•2003

Inspired by empirical studies of networked systems such as the Internet, social networks, and bio-logical networks, researchers have in recent years developed a variety of techniques and models to help us understand or predict the behavior of these systems. Here we review developments in this field, including such concepts as the small-world eect, degree distributions, clustering, network correlations, random graph models, models of network growt…

  • Modeling Extinction

    M Newman, M E J Newman et al.•BOOK•Modeling extinction•2003

Developed after a meeting at the Santa Fe Institute on extinction modeling, this book comments critically on the various modeling approaches. In the last decade or so, scientists have started to examine a new approach to the patterns of evolution and extinction in the fossil record. This approach may be called "statistical paleontology," since it looks at large-scale patterns in the record and attempts to understand and model their average statis…

  • Blood as a Binding Medium in a Chumash Indian Pigment Cake

    Open Access•David Scott, D A Scott et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•1996•Cited by: 5•References: 14

As part of a study of Chumash Indian pigments, some black pigment cakes have been examined. One pigment cake was characterized as soot by polarized light microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared microscopy showed that the binder was proteinaceous. Protein determination was followed by examination using gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry analysis which showed a characteristic suite of amino acids to be present, proportionally similar to blood.…
