Drug dog affects: Accounting for the broad social, emotional and health impacts of general drug detection dog operations in Australia
Desiring assemblages: A case for desire over pleasure in critical drug studies
Biopedagogical Assemblages: Exploring School Drug Education in Action
Public health 'perspectives' position school-based drug education as a key site whereby public health imperatives can be brought to life through the 'empowerment' of young people to take charge of their bodies to ensure their own good health. Foucauldian governmentality scholarship has been extremely useful in the task of critically examining these attempts to govern the population's health and drug use, drawing attention to the ways in which cla…

Spatial ‘Folds’: The entwining of bodies, risks and city spaces for women injecting drug users in Melbourne's Central Business District
How do street-based injecting drug using women negotiate the myriad day to day risks of injecting in public urban space whilst, at the same time, negotiate the gendered discourses surrounding space and drug use, which work to both limit their bodily movements and position them as ‘dirty’, ‘diseased’ and ‘dangerous’? How do they avoid overdose, violence, arrest and disease, whilst at the same time avoid becoming—and being treated as—a ‘leper’ or ‘…
Machinic Assemblages: Deleuze, Guattari and an Ethico-Aesthetics of Drug Use
The body conceived of as a machinic assemblage becomes a body that is multiple. Its function or meaning no longer depends on an interior truth or identity, but on the particular assemblages it forms with other bodies. In this paper I draw on the work of Deleuze and Guattari to explore what happens to the drug using body when it is rethought as a machinic assemblage. Following an exploration of how the body of the drug user is put together and str…
Body–space assemblages and folds: Theorizing the relationship between injecting drug user bodies and urban space
The outside is not a fixed limit but a moving matter animated by peristaltic movements, folds and foldings that together make up an inside: they are not something other than the outside, but precis
Chloroquine-Resistant Plasmodium Falciparum from Porto Velho, Brazil
Two cases of Plasmodium falciparum infections, apparently originating in Porto Velho, Brazil, which were not eliminated by the usual curative doses of chloroquine are documented. One patient received a total of 6.675 grams chloroquine base, including four regimens varying from 0.9 to 2.1 grams each, without eradicating the parasites. She was cured subsequently by a 10-day quinine treatment. The second patient received a total of 3.675 grams chlor…
