From early adopters to early majority
The transition to battery-electric trucks (BETs) is an essential step toward decarbonizing heavy-duty road transport. While early adopters have driven initial market uptake, achieving large-scale adoption requires understanding the barriers faced by the early majority (i.e., transport companies that have yet to transition). This study examines these barriers and identifies policy support needs to facilitate accelerated BET adoption. Drawing on fo…
When do incumbents adopt radical net-zero technologies? Analysing differences in strategy trajectories of European truck manufacturers towards alternative vehicle technologies
Net-zero vehicle technologies are essential to curb CO 2 emissions from heavy-duty road transport. This study investigates the innovation strategies of European truck manufacturers following the EU's decision to limit CO 2 emissions of heavy-duty vehicles in 2019. Our analysis is based on interviews with managers from all European truck manufacturers and publicly available documents covering the period from 2018 to 2021. We find four different ty…

How media coverage of technologies affects public opinion
This paper finds that positive media coverage has a positive effect on individual attitudes towards alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) technologies. The study matches an automated text analysis of six German newspapers from 2018 - 2020 (n = 7,805 articles) with a representative novel survey dataset of citizens in large German cities (n = 1,776). For battery-electric vehicles (BEV), as the most covered technology in the articles, a multiple regression…
Covid-19 and the academy
In many countries, the lock-down due to the COVID-19 pandemic triggered discussions on the use of digital interaction formats for academic exchange. The pace with which researchers adopted digital formats for conferences, lectures, and meetings revealed that currently available tools can substitute many of the physical interactions in the workplace. It also showed that academics are willing to use digital tools for scientific exchange. This artic…
