A Casual Model of Barriers and Incentives to Affordable Housing in Southern Rural Communities
The S-194 Southern Region Housing Research Project, “Barriers and Incentives to Affordable Housing,” was undertaken to determine the influence of community-related variables on housing stock characteristics of small, rural communities in the South. A causal model of barriers and incentives was proposed to explain relationships and interactions among family and community variables and the housing stock of a community. Empirical Evaluation of Relationships in a Proposed Perceptive‐Boundaries Paradigm
This article presents an evaluation of relationships in the perceptive‐boundaries paradigm. The paradigm encompasses previous work in sociopsychological aspects of housing and provides a conceptual basis for integrating prior findings into a holistic model. Perception of adequate housing is based on culture, experiences, norms, and values. Perceptions are believed to filter one's view of the housing environment and influence both housing preferen…
Housing assessment criteria of rural households
Perceptive Boundaries
This preliminary study examines the conceptual links among variables employed in Housing Adjustment Theory (Morris and Winter, 1975) and Housing Values (Cutler, 1947; Beyer, Mackesey, and Montgomery, 1955). Two variables--the perception of adequate housing and sociopsychological housing congruence--are added to the five fundamental, sociopsychological aspects cited from previous studies. The framework for a new model is proposed with these new va…
Factors that Influence the Acceptability of Alternative Housing
A Housing-Decision Framework
This paper explains the theoretical bases and procedures used in developing and testing a housing-decision framework. The framework presented 1) assumes that consumer choice among housing alternatives is a function of available knowledge and predictability of intertemporal or future impact of a decision, and 2) requires the rating of six socio-economic and production factors on three conditions of choice resulting in an 18-cell matrix for assessi…
