  • More Than Human Altitudes: Exploring Assemblages of Bees, Flowers, and People in the Italian Alps

    Open Access•Lia Zola•ARTICLE•The Oriental Anthropologist A…•2024•References: 17

My paper wishes to delve into concepts such as assemblage and sympoiesis and examine them within the framework of my ethnographic fieldwork on beekeeping in the Western chain of the Italian Alps. I believe that the implications of notions such as sympoiesis and assemblage can be seen to surface in the context of beekeeping and bee culture, as they emerge as multispecies activities where everything and everyone involved can be regarded as a social…

  • Cunning as… a Wolf Multispecies Relations Between Humans and Wolves in Eastern Siberia: Multispecies Relations Between Humans and Wolves in Eastern Siberia

    Open Access•Lia Zola•ARTICLE•Lagoonscapes•2021

Recent anthropological reasoning fostered by the ontological turn debate, has tackled the issue of multispecies ethnography: it deals with the lives and deaths of all the creatures that for decades have stayed on the margins of anthropology. According to this approach, animals, insects, plants and other organisms have started to appear alongside humans with legibly biographical and political lives. Focused on the changing contours of the ‘nature’…

  • Corridoi di connessioni. Rinselvatichire l'ambiente, ripristinare relazioni

    Open Access•Lia Zola•ARTICLE•Archivio antropologico mediterraneo•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 16

  • Ritual Continuity and “Failed Rituals” in a Winter Masquerade in the Italian Alps

    Open Access•Lia Zola•ARTICLE•Revue de géographie alpine•2011•Cited by: 2•References: 12

Alpine winter masquerades, also known as carnival masquerades, may be regarded as one of the most complex phenomena within the field of study of cultural anthropology and folklore. In the Italian alpine chain some of them have been brought to a new life two decades ago after a long period of decline; since then, alpine winter masquerades have been the focus of a great interest by cultural anthropologists, theatre performers and other intellectual…
