  • The Spanish Version of the Draw-A-Person Questionnaire (Dapq)

    Open Access•Fabiana Franco, Stephen A Karp et al.•ARTICLE•Hispanic Journal of Behavioral…•2005•References: 10

The present study evaluates the discriminating ability and psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the Draw-A-Person Questionnaire (DAPQ). The DAPQ is an instrument that uses both free-response and fixed-response methodologies and has been recently translated into Spanish. A group of 60 psychiatric patients of Latin American origin is compared to a sample of matched Latino comparison participants. Participants are closely matched by gen…

  • Word-Association Patterns of Mental Hospital Patients

    Open Access•Elaine J Klionsky, Judy B Okawa et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1998

The present study concerned an attempt to corroborate the classic findings of Rapaport, Gill, and Schafer in distinguishing mental hospital patients from control subjects, using a new objectively scored word-association test. 12 computer-scored objective scales were used to compare groups of 101 mental hospital inpatients (n = 75, including 37 on a prison ward) and outpatients (n = 26) and 101 control subjects matched with the patients for sex, a…

  • The Adult Personality of Childhood Incest Victims

    Open Access•Tracey L Waldman, David E Silber et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1997

This is a further report on a group of 30 incest survivors we wrote about in 1994. Here, we report on measures of personality derived from the Apperceptive Personality Test, which contains many variables similar to those on the one we reported in 1994. On both measures, incest survivors can be characterized as having more negative perceptions and self-descriptions than the comparison group

  • Relationship between the Apperceptive Personality Test and Verbal Intelligence in a University Sample

    Open Access•Robert W Holmstrom, Stephen A Karp et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1993

This study examined the relationship between verbal intelligence and the Apperceptive Personality Test/Brief Adult in a university sample. The recently developed test is a picture-story assessment technique and, as with its parent test, the Apperceptive Personality Test/Comprehensive Adult, combines both projective and objective features. Research to date with both tests has focused on some 19 (objectively scored) questionnaire variables selected…

  • The Apperceptive Personality Test and Locus of Control

    Open Access•Robert W Holmstrom, Stephen A Karp et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1991

This study examined the relationship between the Apperceptive Personality Test (APT) and Rotter's Internal-External Locus of Control (I-E) Scale. These scales were administered to 131 undergraduates (83 women, 48 men) and a stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed with Rotter's I-E scores as the criterion variable and 20 APT variables as predictors. The results provided some support for modest but significant relationships between two …

  • Validity of the Megargee-Bohn MMPI Typology with Women Incarcerated in a State Prison

    Open Access•Lynda B Smith, David E Silber et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1988

This report describes a study of the validity of typing inmates from their MMPI scores using the system developed by Megargee and Bohn. The subjects were female inmates of a state prison. The typology was not a strong predictor of either current or subsequent prison behaviors as derived from inmate records. When the various types were ordered for degree of deviance, however, the resulting validity of the typology appeared to increase. As currentl…

  • Personality Correlates of Reflectivity

    Open Access•Pamela S Jennings, Robert W Holmstrom et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1986

This study investigated personality correlates of reflectivity. Spitzer's Twenty Statements Test procedure, developed within a symbolic-interactionist framework, was used to identify reflective subjects. Of primary interest was the relationship between reflectivity and indices of ideal-self discrepancy. Other variables assumed to have relevance to reflectivity were self-awareness, imagery control, socialization, and anxiety. Results confirmed the…

  • Psychological Differentiation (Field Dependence) in Obese Women

    Stephen A Karp, Herbert Pardes•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1965

Level of psychological differentiation, a measurable dimension of personality structure, has previously been found to distinguish various pathological “symptom” groups from matched control groups. In the present study, perceptual tests reflecting differentiation were administered to obese and control patients to determine the existence of a significant difference between these groups. Thirty-four obese female volunteers from a nutrition clinic an…
