General and gay-related racism experienced by Latino gay men
Latino gay men report experiences of racial discrimination within and outside the gay community. This study focused on correlates of racism within general and gay contexts. Racism was assessed in a probability sample of 911 Latino gay men recruited from 3 U.S. cities. The role of cultural factors in explaining sexual attitudes among African American urban girls, aged 10-13 years, was investigated in this study. The authors predicted that girls with higher school interest, family cohesion, religiosity, and behavioral self-esteem would endorse less risky sexual attitudes. Utilization of Traditional and Non-Traditional Sources of Health Care among Hispanics
A random sample of 100 low-income Hispanics was interviewed regarding patterns of health care utilization and perceptions of underutilization of health services by members of their community. Responses showed substantially low rates of utilization of preventive services although most respondents knew when care should be sought. Utilization rates of folk providers (Curanderos, yerberos, etc.) were minimal among this sample. Financial difficulties …
