  • Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Houston Parks After Hurricane Harvey

    Open Access•Gaston Casillas, Norman M Johnson et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Justice•2021

Unprecedented inland precipitation and catastrophic flooding associated with Hurricane Harvey potentially redistributed contaminants from industrial sites and transportation infrastructure to recreational areas that make up networks of green infrastructure, creeks, and waterways used for flood control throughout the Greater Houston Area. Sediment samples were collected in parks located near the Buffalo Bayou watershed 1 week after Hurricane Harve…

• Fragile X Gene Stability in Basque Valleys

    I Arrieta, I González De Arrieta et al.•ARTICLE•Human Biology•2008•References: 2

Fragile X syndrome is the most common form of inherited mental retardation. The molecular basis is usually the unstable expansion of a CGG repeat in the FMR1 gene. We previously analyzed a sample of two Basque valleys. In the present work we extend the study to another five isolated valleys. The results show that differences in factors implicated in CGG repeat instability--CGG repeat size, XS548/FRAXAC1 haplotypes, and AGG interspersion pattern-a…

  • Abstracts from the XIV World Meeting—International Society for Research on Aggression

    Open Access•J M Ramírez•ARTICLE•Aggressive Behavior•2001

The Seville Statement on Violence (signed in 1986) was born out of discussions that took place at ISRA in 1980.It stated a negative case-that it is scientifically incorrect to say that war is caused by inherited tendencies, genetic programs, brain mechanisms or "instincts."The Statement did not attempt to make a positive case and identify the cultural factors that lead to war.It is therefore proposed that investigations concerning these cultural …
