    1. The anticonvulsant and behavioural effects of the glycine/NMDA receptor partial agonist, L-687,414 (R(+)-cis-beta-methyl-3-amino-1-hydroxypyrrolid-2-one) have been investigated in rodents. 2. L-687,414 dose-dependently antagonized seizures induced by N-methyl-D,L- aspartic acid (NMDLA, ED50 = 19.7 mg kg-1), pentylenetetrazol (PTZ, ED50 = 13.0 mg kg-1) and electroshock (ED50 = 26.1 mg kg-1) when given intravenously 15 min before test, in male S…

  • Apolipoprotein E and Presenilin-1 Allelic Variation and Alzheimer's Disease in India

    Giriraj R Chandak, M Uma Sridevi et al.•ARTICLE•Human Biology•2002•References: 2

As part of a larger epidemiological survey to study the prevalence of dementia in a suburb of Mumbai, Western India, we identified 78 cases with a Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) > or = 1.0. Of these, 49 Alzheimer's disease (AD) cases were analyzed for risk association with APOE E*4 allele at apolipoprotein E gene (APOE) and presenilin-1 (PS-1) intron-8 polymorphism and were compared with 100 age- and sex-matched nondemented controls. Genotype ana…

  • Skinfold Thickness of The Meitei Boys of Manipur

Open Access•L Dibamani Singh, T Shyamacharan Singh et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•2001•References: 2

Six skinfold measurements such as triceps, anterior thigh, medial calf, subscapular, suprailiac and umbilical were taken from 969 Meitei boys of 12 to 18 years of age. 488 of the boys belong to affluent families and 481 to non-affluent families. The affluent boys possess thicker skinfolds than their non-affluent counterparts in all the measurements and age groups. Peak adolescent growth spurt could not be seen for separate skinfolds in both the b…
