  • Restriction Isotyping of Apolipoprotein E among Populations of Punjab, Northwestern India

    Praveen P Balgir, Mandeep Kaur•ARTICLE•Human Biology•2003•Cited by: 1

The molecular polymorphism displayed by apolipoprotein E (apoE, protein; APOE, gene) has been listed as a risk factor for susceptibility to various disorders, such as those associated with lipid metabolism and arteriosclerosis. Data from many population groups are available. The present study endeavors to add to the world population database for alleles encountered at this locus. One hundred sixty-five individuals representing four castes and a m…

  • Apolipoprotein A-IV Polymorphism in Five Punjabi Populations

Open Access•Puneetpal Singh, Monica Singh et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2000

Apolipoprotein A-IV genotypes were determined in five population groups (Brahmins, Banias, Jatsikhs, Khatris and ‘Others’) of Punjab (n-780) by two dimensional gel electrophoresis. The apo A-IV exhibits two common polymorphic alleles AIV-1 and AIV-2 with pooled frequencies 0.903 and 0.097 respectively. Distribution of apo A-IV isoforrms highlight considerable variation among different ethnic groups across the world. Average heterozygosity of Punj…

  • Apolipoprotein Polymorphism in Man – It’s Role in Health and Disease

Open Access•Puneet Pal Singh, Puneetpal Singh et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•1999

Apolipo proteins play an important role in lipid transport in human body; starting from absorption of processed dietary lipids from the exogenous pathway in intestines to the endogenous transport involving extra hepatic cells and processing them in the liver. Along with various enzymes the binding characteristics of apolipoproteins are the main determinants in lipid metabolism in the body. The binding characteristics are in turn dependent on the …
