Estimating State Price Densities Implied by American Options
We propose a new method to estimate state price densities implicit in American-style options. The method involves estimating the parameters of a Gauss-Hermite series expansion and solving a sequence of recursive equations for the early exercise premium. The resulting estimator can capture sudden shifts in density that may occur during financial crises or in response to significant policy events. It also provides an estimate of the early exercise …

An occupational health survey on health utility and occupational diseases in Chinese university staff to inform cost-utility analysis

Natural resources, rent dependence, and public goods provision in China: Evidence from Shanxi’s county-level governments

According to fiscal sociology, due to the rentier effect, resource-rich local governments tend to have more state autonomy and are less responsive to society, resulting in poor governance. Moreover, due to political myopia, resource-abundant local governments tend to neglect the accumulation of human capital. Shanxi’s county-level governme…

The Impacts of Intergovernmental Transfers on Local Governments’ Fiscal Behavior in China: A Cross‐County Analysis (政府间转移支付对中国地方政府财政行为的影响:一项跨县分析)
Since the 1994 tax sharing reform, China's intergovernmental fiscal transfers have become huge in size and complicated in kind. More importantly, they have been assigned by the central government a variety of roles due to its changing policy priorities. This paper focuses on an episode, during the years 2000–2005, when substantial transfers were used by Beijing to advance the rural ‘tax and fee’ reforms. Using a cross county dataset from 2005 we …

Citizen Expectations and Improvement of Government Functions: A Study of Importance and Performance of Budgetary Demands in China (公民期待和政府功能的改进:一项对中国预算需求和绩效的研究)
How should the government allocate fiscal resources among different sectors in order to satisfy the needs and expectations of its citizens? This question is worth considering because public finance in China has increased at a rate much higher than that of GDP in recent years. Based on a classification of public expenditures, we classify public services and goods provided by the Chinese government into five functions: the administrative, law and o…
