Reported biological consequences related to the suppression of melatonin by electric and magnetic field exposure
A review of neuroendocrine and neurochemical changes associated with static and extremely low frequency electromagnetic field exposure
Porphyrin Levels in the Harderian Glands of Female and Male Syrian Hamsters
The Harderian glands are located in the orbital cavity of most mammals that possess a nictitating membrane. Like the retinas, the Harderian glands contain melatonin and also significant amount of porphyrins. The current studies examined the effects of various procedures on the porphyrin concentrations of the Harderian glands of male and female hamsters. The glands of females were found to have significantly greater concentrations of porphyrins th…
Effect of the Pineal Gland on Alcohol Consumption by Congenitally Blind Male Rats
Congenitally blind rats drank more of a 5% alcohol solution than water while congenitally blind pinealectomized rats drank more water than did the intact rats. Daily injections of melatonin did not influence choice of drinking fluid in either group
