MeToo, consent and prostitution – The Irish law reform experience
The recent reform of Irish prostitution law introduced in Part 4 of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2017, which criminalised the purchase of sexual services, is based upon 1999 Swedish legislation in accordance with an approach termed ‘the Nordic model’. Associations Between Forced and “Persuaded” First Intercourse and Later Health Outcomes in Women
The effects of nonconsensual first experiences of sexual intercourse in women are understudied. This was investigated in 3,875 adult women of whom 6.7% reported "persuaded" first-sex and 0.8% reported forced first-sex. Compared with willing first-sex, both forced and "persuaded" first-sex occurred earlier, involved a greater age difference between partners, and were associated with more lifetime sexual partners and some measures of worse psycholo…

This article traces developments in the law on abortion in Ireland up to the present day. It begins with an historical overview, then discusses the legal context before considering in more detail political and legal developments from 1983 onwards. It concludes that legislation in this sensitive policy area is long overdue, and argues for a deletion of Article 40.3.3 from the Constitution.
