The social impacts of 'social distancing' on sociality in the context of Covid-19
One of the recommended interventions against the spread of COVID-19 is 'social distancing'. This means maintaining a recommended physical distance between people and reducing the number of times people come into close contact with each other. At the same time, the public is being advised to maintain or even increase social contact. Botswana’s response to the outbreak of the Coronavirus (Covid-19)
The success of any government’s efforts to sustainably reduce the risk of and/or manage disasters depends to a large extent on the people’s knowledge, beliefs, attitudes and perceptions of the risk posed by the disaster. This study assessed the government and communities of Botswana’s response to the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19). The survey utilised a stratified three-stage probability sampling design to select respondents according to stra…

Undocumented Migrants As Homo Sacer
The concept of homo sacer originates from ancient Roman law under which an individual who committed a certain kind of crime was excluded from society and all his/her rights as a citizen were revoked. This paper uses a few selected cases reported in the media of Botswana and South Africa to demonstrate why undocumented migrants in the two countries fit Agamben's description of homo sacer. While migrants in general, whether documented or undocument…

Challenges faced by women with disabilities in accessing sexual and reproductive health in Zimbabwe
The government, in partnership with other stakeholders, should address challenges faced by women with disabilities when accessing sexual and reproductive health services. Non-government, private hospitals and profit-making organisations should join hands with government in funding health requirements for women with disabilities
HIV/Aids at the Workplace
Zimbabwe has one of the highest HIV infection rates in the world, and they continue to increase. About one million people (10 percent of the population) had been infected with the HIV virus by December 1995 (SAFAids 1997: 1). By 2005 1.2 million people will have died of Aids, and cases of Aids will probably only begin to decline after 2010, about eight years after HIV prevalence rates begin to decline (IDS 1999: 34). The HIV/Aids epidemic has, pe…
