The Role of Household Savings in Fiscal and Monetary Policy
This study examines how declining household savings in China affect fiscal and monetary policy effectiveness. Using a New Keynesian Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium model with Rule-of-Thumb (ROT) households and data from 2000Q1 to 2023Q3, the findings show that lower savings amplify policy impacts, boosting output, and consumption but increasing inflation. Fiscal policy effects become more pronounced with reduced savings. Robustness checks …
Korean adolescent suicide and search volume for “self-injury” on internet search engines
Further studies with larger sample sizes, more search terms, and analysis of time intervals between suicide-related term search and suicide death are required. These studies can contribute to the establishment of an online suicide prevention system to detect suicide risk in adolescents and provide interventions
Contributing Factors to the Burden on Primary Family Caregivers of Stroke Survivors in South Korea
The purpose of this study is to identify the factors associated with the burden on primary family caregivers of stroke patients at home without care services. For this study, the Korean Stroke Cohort for Functioning and Rehabilitation (KOSCO) data were used. Of the total 8010 caregivers, 1133 family caregiver burden was assessed with the shortened Caregiver Burden Inventory (CBI) 3 months after stroke. Patient and caregiver-related factors affect…
Changes in Long-Term Functional Independence in Patients with Moderate and Severe Ischemic Stroke
This study investigated the long-term functional changes in patients with moderate-to-severe ischemic stroke. In addition, we investigated whether there was a difference between the modified Barthel Index (MBI) and Functional Independence Measure (FIM) according to severity. To evaluate the changes in the long-term functional independence of the subjects, six evaluations were conducted over 2 years, and the evaluation was performed using MBI and …
A Pilot Study of Bioenergetic Marker Relationships in Gulf War Illness
Impaired bioenergetics have been reported in veterans with Gulf War illness (VGWIs), including prolonged post-exercise recovery of phosphocreatine (PCr-R) assessed with 31 Phosphorus magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The citric acid cycle (CAC) is considered the most important metabolic pathway for supplying energy, with relationships among CAC markers reported to shift in some but not all impaired bioenergetic settings. We sought to assess relati…
Gender differences in risk factors and clinical outcomes in young patients with acute myocardial infarction
BACKGROUND: There are limited data on the influence of gender on risk factors and clinical outcomes in young patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). METHODS: This prospective study stratified outcomes according to gender in patients of age ≤50 years with a diagnosis of AMI, and who were enrolled in the nationwide registry of the Korea Working Group of Myocardial Infarction. The end point was the incidence of major adverse cardiovascular …
