  • Addressing pandemic-related guilt and shame in U.S. military veterans: A pilot randomized controlled trial of trauma-informed guilt reduction and supportive care therapy

Open Access•Matthew L McCue, Christy Capone et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2025

Findings suggest that veterans with PTSD and guilt may benefit more from trauma- or morally injurious event-focused interventions like TrIGR, while veterans without PTSD may be adequately supported by SCT. Larger, more diverse samples are needed to identify optimal approaches for guilt and shame arising from morally injurious events. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Residual PTSD and depression symptoms among veterans receiving prolonged exposure therapy with and without topiramate

Alexandra Klein, Terrell A Hicks et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2025

The residual symptoms most likely to persist may depend on the treatment being evaluated; topiramate may have unique effects on depressionogenic symptoms while patients are taking the medication. Residual symptoms may signal a need for additional treatment if they are distressing/functionally impairing. More work is needed to understand whether symptoms are maintained or continue to improve longitudinally. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2026 APA, …

  • An Empirical Test of Gentrification-Induced Social and Cultural Displacement and Place Identity: Examining Native Black American Residents’ Experiences

Brittany Davis, Kirk A Foster et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Community Practice•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 37

  • “Tone It Down”: The Whitewashing of Black Women Doctoral Students’ Research and Scholarship at Predominately White Institutions—Implications for Social Work Doctoral Education

Betty L Wilson, Brittany Davis et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Work Education•2023

While there is growing research on the structural and institutional barriers experienced by Black women faculty at predominantly White institutions (PWIs), little is known about the systemic marginalization faced by Black women doctoral students at these institutions, particularly those in doctoral social work programs. Given the increasing number of Black women doctoral students in social work programs at PWIs, there is a need to understand how …

  • Innovations to Photovoice: Using Smartphones & Social Media

    Open Access•Kirk A Foster, Brittany Davis et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Affairs Review•2023•Cited by: 4•References: 33

Photovoice, a participatory action research method, has evolved little over the past two decades. The ubiquity of smartphones and their utility as digital cameras make them a natural fit for photovoice projects. The use of social media to post photographs and comment also has the potential to be a platform for photovoice activities. Using these technologies for photovoice promotes capturing daily life in vivo without the need of additional equipm…

  • A model for treating Covid-19–related guilt, shame, and moral injury

Open Access•Moira Haller, Sonya B Norman et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2020

During the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, people around the world have faced a myriad of heart-rending and ethically difficult scenarios (e.g., not being able to tend to a sick or dying loved one) that may lead to subsequent guilt, shame, or moral injury. Trauma-informed guilt reduction therapy is a brief intervention that helps clients accurately appraise their role in a stressful event (such as those experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic) …

  • Does exposure exacerbate symptoms in veterans with PTSD and alcohol use disorder

Jessica C Tripp, Moira Haller et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2020

Exposure therapy did not lead to more clinical exacerbation than nonexposure therapy during the course of treatment, providing support that exposure therapy should not be withheld from patients with PTSD/AUD. This was a secondary analysis. and future studies that are sufficiently powered may demonstrate different results. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2021 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Female “dispersal” in hamadryas baboons: Transfer among social units in a multilevel society

Open Access•Larissa Swedell, Julian Saunders et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2011•Cited by: 18•References: 82

Unlike most cercopithecines, hamadryas baboons ( Papio hamadryas hamadryas ) are characterized by female‐biased dispersal. To clarify this pattern within the context of their hierarchical social system (comprising one‐male units, clans, bands, and troops), we report here 7 years of data on female transfers among social units in wild hamadryas baboons in Ethiopia. Female tenure in one‐male units (OMUs) ranged from 1 to 2,556 days ( N = 208) and su…
