Yet scholarship has tended to overlook these neighborhoods as sites of violent policing or models of community safety. In a 4-year collaborative community-based crime reduction project, this case study investigates how uneven development policies and underdevelopment in a low-income Latinx inner-ring…

    Willow Lung-Amam, Nohely Alvarez et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Community Practice•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 11

This article explores the lessons learned about community safety from a four-year effort to reduce crime and improve safety in a predominately Latinx suburb of Washington, DC. It shows that programs that invested in building trust and rapport between police and community had little impact. Alternatively, efforts that built community, resourced and engag…

  • Segregation in Federally Subsidized Low-Income Housing in the United States

Rodney Green, David M James et al.•BOOK•Segregation in Federally…•1998

Earlier studies of subsidized housing assume that segregation is a manifestation of white prejudice, and that the Fair Housing Act of 1968 would significantly remedy inequalities in housing and, in the process, narrow the socioeconomic gap between racial groups. This book argues, on the contrary, that segregation by race and income has been an integral part of federal housing policy from its inception and that white prejudice merely obscures the …
