Birth Order of Volunteers for Group and Individual Psychological Experiments
The effect of birth order on rate of volunteering for a potential group or individual psychological experiment was investigated. Subjects were 286 undergraduates (89 firstborns and 197 later borns). Volunteering was not significantly related to ordinal position. Controls for family size and alternative classification schemes for ordinal position did not indicate any birth order—volunteering relationships. The data were discussed in terms of recen…
Effects of Verbalization and Task Change Sensitivity on the Optional Shift Behavior of Kindergarten Children
The effects of verbalization and method of task presentation on children's optional shift behavior are reported. Ninety-six kindergarten boys and girls made optional shifts consistent with the dimension verbalized in original learning. However, many children shifted directly to the cue actually reinforced in original learning (a "Regressive" shift). This type of shift was attributed to one of two procedural changes: the absence of reward for any …

Correlational Analysis of Changes in Children's Easter Drawings as a Function of a Naturally-Motivated Expectancy
Twenty-eight kindergarten (15 boys and 13 girls) and 20 first-grade children (12 boys and 8 girls) drew four pictures of either the Easter bunny or the Easter basket prior to Easter and two pictures of the same symbol after Easter. Height and width measures were obtained for each drawing and correlation matrices were constructed individually for age, sex, ordinal position, and symbol — bunny v. basket. Cognitive Style Performance and Form Discrimination
Forty-two male and 42 female college students were subdivided into field independent, medium, and field dependent identity groups and matched for sex. Each subject was given 24 active and 24 passive touch form discrimination trials. The results showed that active touch form discrimination yielded fewer errors than passive touch and that females were better form discriminators than males.
