The dual attitudinal dynamics of public opinion
From Kiss to Tass Modeling
The ‘keep it simple, stupid’ slogan, or the KISS principle has been the basic guideline in agent-based modeling (ABM). While the KISS principle or parsimony is vital in modeling attempts, conventional agent-based models remain abstract and are rarely incorporated or validated with empirical data, leaving the links between theoretical models and empirical phenomena rather loose. This article reexamines the KISS principle and discusses the recent m…
International policy diffusion at the systemic level
This article tries to identify the conditions under which international policy diffusion occurs, focusing on networks among states. In the existing policy diffusion literature, ‘networks’ have recently attracted the attention of scholars. Using Agent-Based Simulation, we consider the question of whether a new policy diffuses more widely in a community with dense networks or in a community with sparse networks. Our results show that denser network…

Modeling Interdependence and Analyzing Conflict
Conflict, one of the oldest concerns in international relations theory, and interdepen dence, one of the most recent concerns, are the interlocking problems that endanger world politics and economy. This article designs and constructs a mathematical model that causally explains how and why transactional interdependence between nations actualizes conflict. In addition to the two above concepts, the model deals with power and conflict resolution. F…

Interdependence of the Asean Region
Attempting to discuss the transactional interdependence of the ASEAN region consisting of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand in comparison with that between the region and its adjacent countries, this paper analyzes trade flows in Southeast Asia in 1950, 1960 and 1970. The level of interdependence is measured herein by the percentage of exports and the Relative Acceptance index which is applied to international relations…
