  • What does not kill you can make you stronger

Open Access•Yaru Chen, Xuanang Liu et al.•ARTICLE•American Psychologist•2026

Trauma is a ubiquitous aspect of human life that can challenge psychological health but also trigger adaptive changes. Tension theory suggests that exposure to stress events may stimulate novel and flexible thinking. Historical evidence indicates that many eminent creators experienced significant childhood trauma, implying that creativity can emerge as an adaptive response. Building on this framework, we examined how cumulative trauma exposure re…

  • Public attention, big data technology, and green innovation efficiency

Yaru Chen, Jin Hu et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Environmental Planning…•2025

This study employs the undesirable output super-efficiency SBM-DEA model to reassess the green innovation efficiency (GIE) of 30 Chinese provinces from 2011 to 2020. We pioneer the examination of public attention (PA) influence on GIE and spatial spillover effects, employing the spatial Durbin model. Additionally, a spatial mediation model, incorporating big data technology as a mediator, is adopted. Key findings are as follows: 1) Significant sp…

  • Leveraging normative power in co‐production to redress power imbalances

    Open Access•Yaru Chen, Charlotte Croft et al.•ARTICLE•Public Administration•2024•Cited by: 3•References: 10

In this article, we explore how less dominant actors, service users in our case, utilize different types of power to influence more dominant professional groups during processes of co‐production. Drawing on semi‐structured interviews with 48 service users involved in healthcare improvement research, we illuminate the crucial role of normative power during processes of co‐production. In contrast to extant co‐production literature, which largely fo…

Open Access•Qiang Zhang, Fang Yang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

As an important yardstick of social modernization, nuclear technology not only promotes the in-depth development of the national economy but also hangs a sword of Damocles in the field of the risk society. Against the background of the unrest of the nuclear leakage disaster at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, the Japanese government has announced its unilateral decision to discharge nuclear sewage into the sea, undoubtedly putting at least the …

Open Access•Buzohre Eli, Yueyue Zhou et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Previous studies have confirmed that depression among residents in high-altitude areas is more severe, and that depression may be more persistent and disabling in older adults. This study aims to identify the symptom structure of depression among older adults on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (the highest plateau in the world) from a network perspective. This cross-sectional study enrolled 507 older adults (ages 60-80 years old) from the Yushu Prefect…

  • Responding to imposed job redesign

    Open Access•Yaru Chen, Trish Reay•ARTICLE•Human Relations•2021•Cited by: 11•References: 33

How do professionals respond when they are required to conduct work that does not match with their identity? We investigated this situation in an English public services organization where a major work redesign initiative required professionals to engage in new tasks that they did not want to do. Based on our findings, we develop a process model of professional identity restructuring that includes the following four stages: (1) resisting identity…

  • Fastp

Open Access•Shifu Chen, Yanqing Zhou et al.•ARTICLE•Bioinformatics•2018

Motivation: Quality control and preprocessing of FASTQ files are essential to providing clean data for downstream analysis. Traditionally, a different tool is used for each operation, such as quality control, adapter trimming and quality filtering. These tools are often insufficiently fast as most are developed using high-level programming languages (e.g. Python and Java) and provide limited multi-threading support. Reading and loading data multi…

  • English translation of long Traditional Chinese Medicine terms

    Open Access•Yaru Chen, Wei Chen•ARTICLE•Terminology International Journal…•2018

Apart from the importance of accurate meaning transference, the key to English translation of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) terms lies in the proper translation of term forms, in particular, of long term structures and length. This article reports on an empirical study of the English translation of long TCM terms by the following procedures: (1) collecting 1220 TCM terms and their English translations from dictionaries, journals and official…

Under Xi Jinping's leadership, China has actively promoted “Internet sovereignty” as a means to reshape the discourse and practices of global cyber governance. By analyzing Chinese‐language literature, this article unpacks the Chinese discourse of Internet sovereignty. Despite significant interest in promoting it as China's normative position on cyberspace, we find that Chinese formulations of Internet sovereignty are fragmented, diverse, and und…
