Living in the shadow of Lynch Syndrome
In this paper we explore accounts of eight British women living with Lynch Syndrome: a hereditary syndrome that increases the risk of developing bowel and gynecological cancers. We collected data via semi-structured interviews and analyzed them using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. Respite care for homeless individuals decreases hospital length of stay and readmissions rates. This study aimed to develop client-centered recommendations for medical respite care. We conducted four focus group interviews (n = 25 participants) between August 2010 and February 2013 of homeless adult residents in Minnesota. Four do…

For example, a group of health professions students screen for high blood pressure at a homeless shelter, intending to improve the health and lives of an underserved and disenfranchised group. This health fair is conducted by voluntee…

Perceptions About the Poor, Their Legal Needs, and Legal Services
The Legal Services Corporation is faced with the problem of allocating limited resources in order to meet the legal needs of the poor. It is forced into the dilemma of setting priorities, creating workable regulations to meet an ambiguously defined and elusive concept of legal need. Current regulations require annual reports by legal services programs that are based, in part, on the assessment of eligible clients' needs as expressed by the attitu…
