  • Datamasser og sansemiljøer - Om den performative iscenesættelse af big data

    Open Access•Ulrik Schmidt•ARTICLE•MedieKultur Journal of media and…•2016•References: 1

  • Pulse on pulse

    Open Access•Merete Carlson, Ulrik Schmidt•ARTICLE•Journal of AESTHETICS & CULTURE•2012•Cited by: 1

This article investigates the relation between signifying processes and non-signifying material dynamism in the installation Pulse Room (2006) by Mexican Canadian artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer. In Pulse Room the sense of pulse is ambiguous. Biorhythms are transmitted from the pulsing energy of the visitor's beating heart to the flashing of a fragile light bulb, thereby transforming each light bulb into a register of individual life. But at the same…

MUSIC AND DESIGN. PHIL SPECTOR AND SOUNDSCAPES MEDIATIZATIONPhil Spector is often referred to as one of history’s first true music producers, and his famed ‘Wall of Sound’ has been the model for many future musical productions. However, Spector’s productions can also be seen as an early manifestation, among others, of a much more general change in the auditory popular culture around 1960 away from the conventional approach to musicalsound as some…

  • Keaton og masserne

    Open Access•Ulrik Schmidt•ARTICLE•K&K - Kultur og Klasse•2009

Keaton and the Masses:This article explores conflicts between individual and mass and the process of massification (i.e. the becoming and unfolding of masses) as comic potential in Buster Keaton’s physical comedies. This comic potential is basically characterized by a formalized and aestheticized reduction of human individuality when confronted with objective, non-human matter. De-individualization plays an important role in modern comedy in gene…
