  • Weathering of Norwegian rock art — A critical review

    The action of frost and plant roots is the most serious weathering mechanism found at Norwegian rock art sites. Dissolution of minerals is of secondary importance, and acid rain and other pollutants are not major threats to the rock art. The available evidence does not indicate a recent dramatic increase in weathering rates, and several major sites were already seriously damaged 70 years ago.
