  • A Multi-Proxy Reconstruction of Environmental Change in the Vicinity of the North Bay Outlet of Pro-Glacial Lake Algonquin

    Open Access•Ryan J Rabett, A J E Pryor et al.•ARTICLE•Open Quaternary•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 79

We present a multi-proxy study of environmental conditions during and after the recessional phases of pro-glacial Lake Algonquin in the vicinity of the North Bay outlet, Great Lakes Basin. Data presented comes from a new sedimentary profile obtained from the Balsam Creek kettle lake c. 34 km north-east of the city of North Bay. This site lies close to the north-east margin of the maximum extent of the post-Algonquin lake sequence, which drained t…

  • The Stratigraphy of Kirkhead Cave, an Upper Palaeolithic Site in Northern England

    Open Access•Stephen Gale, Stephen J Gale et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the Prehistoric…•1985•Cited by: 4•References: 28

The sediments of Kirkhead Cave, a truncated phreatic conduit in the Morecambe Bay karst of northern England, have been investigated by scanning electron microscopic, granulometric, petrographic, palynologic and stratigraphic methods. These show that almost all the deposits in the cave are glacigenic sediments, reworked into the cave by a variety of transporting agencies. Investigation of the deposits by radiometric, magnetostratigraphic and biost…
