  • Population Demography and Genetic Diversity in the Pleistocene Cave Lion

    Open Access•Erik Ersmark, Ludovic Orlando et al.•ARTICLE•Open Quaternary•2015•Cited by: 11•References: 61

With a range that covered most of northern Eurasia and parts of North America, the cave lion (Panthera spelaea) was one of the most widespread carnivores of the Late Pleistocene. Earlier ancient DNA analyses have shown that it is distinct from modern lions, and have suggested a demographic decline in Beringia during marine isotope stage 3 (MIS 3). Here, we further investigate the Late Pleistocene population dynamics in more detail by combining a …

  • An examination of dietary diversity patterns in Pleistocene proboscideans (Mammuthus, Palaeoloxodon, and Mammut) from Europe and North America as revealed by dental microwear

    Open Access•F Rivals, Gina M Semprebon et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2012

  • Evolution on planet earth: The Impact of the Physical Environment

  • The Faunal Remains from Evron Quarry in Relation to Other Lower Paleolithic Hominid Sites in the Southern Levant

    Open Access•Eitan Tchernov, L K Horwitz et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1994

The mammalian assemblage and archaeological finds from the Lower Palaeolithic hominid site of Evron Quarry, situated on the northern coastal plain of Israel, are described and discussed. In their lithic and faunal composition, the sites of Latamne (QfIII) (Latamne Formation, Orontes, Syria) and Sitt Markho (Nahr elKebir, Syria) resemble Evron and are probably contemporaneous. It is suggested here, based on their lithic and faunal composition, tha…

  • Taxonomy and biostratigraphy of Middle Pleistocene deer remains from Arago (Pyrénées-Orientales, France)

    Adrian Lister, Adrian M Lister•ARTICLE•Quaternaire•1990•Cited by: 1

A detailed study of deer remains from Arago reveals the presence of Cervus elaphus cf. elaphus, Rangifer tarandus, a small species of uncertain identity (probably Dama dama), and probably a megalocerine of unknown specific attribution. Previous records of Cervus elaphus acoronatus, cf. Praemegaceros sp. and "Cervus"cf. elaphoides, which had been cited as evidence of early Middle Pleistocene age, are not substantiated
