  • With a Little Help from Our Feds

    Open Access•Heather M Creek, Stephen Yoder•ARTICLE•Policy Studies Journal•2012•Cited by: 37•References: 43

Since 2001, state governments have adopted 287(g) cooperative immigration enforcement agreements with the federal government that authorize their law enforcement personnel to assist in detaining violators of civil federal immigration law. Employing a theoretical framework drawn from theories of policy adoption, intergovernmental relations, and immigration research, we test which state‐level political, sociodemographic, geographic, and economic de…

  • What Happens at the Journal Office Stays at the Journal Office

    Open Access•Stephen Yoder, Brittany H Bramlett•ARTICLE•PS Political Science & Politics•2011•References: 10

Dissemination of journal submission data is critical for identifying editorial bias, creating an informed scholarly marketplace, and critically mapping the contours of a discipline's scholarship. However, our survey and case study investigations indicate that nearly a decade after the Perestroika movement began, political science journals remain reserved in collecting and releasing submission data. • Out of Cite! How Reference Managers Are Taking Research to the Next Level

    Open Access•Jason Muldrow, Stephen Yoder•ARTICLE•PS Political Science & Politics•2009•References: 1

Times change, and so do research methods; gone are the days of researching with index cards. While academics may be slow to adopt emerging citation technology, the reference manager field is blazing ahead. This article explains what reference managers are, addresses their emergence in and potential impact on academe, and profiles a newcomer to the field: Zotero. We close by surveying and contrasting Zotero's features with those of its staunchest …

  • A Qualitative Evaluation of MapTime, A Program For Exploring Spatiotemporal Point Data

Terry A Slocum, Terry Slocum et al.•ARTICLE•Cartographica The International…•2004

The purpose of this paper is twofold: (1) to provide a user evaluation of MapTime, a software package for exploring spatiotemporal data associated with point locations, and (2) to examine some cognitive issues associated with the display of a dynamic geographic phenomenon - the change in population for cities over time. The methodology consists of a combination of individual interviews and focus groups conducted for three distinct groups of parti…

  • MapTime

Terry A Slocum, Terry Slocum et al.•ARTICLE•Cartographica The International…•2000

We introduce MapTime, a software package for exploring spatiotemporal data associated with point locations. Three basic exploration methods are available in Map-Time: animation, small multiples, and change maps. Animated maps can be presented either automatically (at a specified frame rate) or under user control (by dragging a scroll box along a scroll bar). We found the user-controlled approach most effective, but this and other Map-Time feature…
