  • Student Research Participation in South Korea

    Open Access•Jun Yi, Jiwon Shin et al.•ARTICLE•PS Political Science & Politics•2023•References: 4

In South Korea, government regulations constrain the resources of higher (tertiary) education, especially non-STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) departments. Resource constraints, in turn, reinforce a culturally Confucian hierarchy that restricts the participation of lower-rank members (e.g., high school and undergraduate students). This more-regulated, formal-education sector does not reflect the increasingly diverse cultur…

  • North Korea in 2022

    Sukhee Han, Suk-Hee Han et al.•ARTICLE•Asian Survey•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 2

North Korea’s 2022 was largely a continuation of the political/economic, military, and diplomatic dynamic from 2020–21, but with different accents. Given the path dependence of military/nuclear modernization, domestic political/economic structural constraints, and the geostrategic situation in East Asia, 2023 in North Korea is likely to continue these same trends. Two big questions loom. (1) How will North Korea open up from COVID border closures…

  • Rage or rationality

    Open Access•Langcheng Zhang, Edson C Tandoc et al.•ARTICLE•Policy & Internet•2022

Studies showed that personal experience with censorship can trigger psychological and behavioral resistance in individual users. However, it is still unclear whether this impact goes beyond those who are censored and to those who witness or are made aware of censorship at work. Through a survey of 481 college students in China, this study examined the relationships between censorship exposure, emotions, and information behaviors on sensitive issu…

  • North Korea in 2021

    Sukhee Han, Dongchan Kim•ARTICLE•Asian Survey•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 1

Continuing the trendline of 2020, North Korea’s key priorities in 2021 were to tighten its belt economically and control the COVID-19 pandemic. Those two goals were related. With its healthcare system no match for such a public health crisis, the government continued its utmost effort to prevent a COVID-19 disaster through the near-complete closure of its borders, severely hampering vital trade with China. As seen in the 8th Congress of the Worke…

  • The Future of US-China Relation after the Trade War

Sukhee Han, Suk-Hee Han et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of international area…•2020

  • Economic sanctions against North Korea

    Open Access•Woo-Jun Min, Sukhee Han•ARTICLE•International Area Studies Review•2020•Cited by: 1•References: 1

At the beginning of 2018, North Korea halted its long-range nuclear- and ballistic-missile development programs and announced that it was willing to denuclearize. Soon afterwards, it reached out to countries including the US, China and South Korea. This sudden change in behavior marked the end of six years of extreme isolation under Kim Jong-un’s leadership. To explain why North Korea decided to reach out when it did, the present study examines t…

  • A pivotal shift

    Open Access•Mason Richey, Sukhee Han et al.•ARTICLE•Political Science•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 7

This article addresses how two globally critical regions – Europe and East Asia (especially Northeast Asia) – are transforming their relationship as an international system defined by multipolarity emerges from the unraveling of the liberal international order. This transformation includes increased trade, developing strategic partnerships between the EU and selected East Asian states, nascent EU-ASEAN inter-regional cooperation, and more diploma…
