  • Variability in the marine radiocarbon reservoir effect in Muscat (Sultanate of Oman) during the 4th millennium BC

Open Access•Antoine Zazzo, Olivia Munoz et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2012•Cited by: 15•References: 13

  • Radiocarbon dating of biological apatites

    Open Access•Antoine Zazzo, Jean‐françois Saliège et al.•ARTICLE•Palaeogeography Palaeoclimatology…•2011

  • Radiocarbon Dating of Calcined Bones

    Open Access•Antoine Zazzo, J-F Saliège et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2009•Cited by: 33•References: 18

Over the past decade, radiocarbon dating of the carbonate contained in the mineral fraction of calcined bones has emerged as a viable alternative to dating skeletal remains in situations where collagen is no longer present. However, anomalously low δ 13 C values have been reported for calcined bones, suggesting that the mineral fraction of bone is altered. Therefore, exchange with other sources of carbon during heating cannot be excluded. Here, w…

Jean Desse, Nathalie Desse-Berset et al.•ARTICLE•Paléorient•2005•Cited by: 3

    J-F Berger, Cleuziou et al.•ARTICLE•Paléorient•2005•Cited by: 15

    Jean‐françois Saliège, J-F Saliège et al.•ARTICLE•Paléorient•2005•Cited by: 11

Measurements of the marine reservoir effect in the Arabian Sea, from the present to 8685 cal ВС, make it possible to discuss the 14C calibration of marine biomineralisations (shells, otoliths, bioapatite). From the present to 4560 cal ВС, the ΔR (210 ± 15) remains constant in the north-west of Arabian Sea allowing us to insert the 14C dates of many anthropic sites from the coast of the gulf of Oman into classical chronologies. During the early to…
