  • Early Bronze Age Strata at Tell Ghanem Al-Ali Along the Middle Euphrates in Syria

Open Access•Toshio Nakamura, Mitsuo Hoshino et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2010•References: 5

We collected charcoal fragments during an archaeological excavation at the Tell Ghanem al-Ali site, located on the lowest terrace of the middle Euphrates River, and measured their radiocarbon ages with accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS). Two trenches, Square-1 and Square-2, were dug on the slope of the tell; 8 building levels were detected in the Square-2 trench. In total, 31 charcoal samples were collected from the 2 trenches, and their calibra…

  • The spatial organization of the Phoenician city of Amrith (Syria)

Open Access•Michel Al Maqdissi, Christophe Benech•ARTICLE•ArchéoSciences•2009

The site of Amrith is located on the Syrian coast 6km south of the modern city of Tartous. More ancient occupation, from the end of the 3th millennium B.C., has been identified on the tell but Amrith is first of all known as a typical site of the Phoenician period in Syria. The site is believed to be a suburb of the city of Aradus on the neighboring island, today called Arwad. It is known primarily for its temple from the 6th century B.C., and it…

  • Sharaya

Christophe Nicolle, Michel Al Maqdissi•ARTICLE•Paléorient•2006•Cited by: 6

One of the contributions made by a survey of preclassical sites begun in 2002 in the Leja (southern Syria) by a Syro-French team concerns the EB1a period (mid-4th millennium). Exceptional preservation permitted the mapping of a large part of Sharaya, a village that includes several dozen-apsidal houses. The initial description of this research presented here indicates how important this new information is for an understanding of the size of rural…

  • Labwe (Syrie)

Michel Al Maqdissi, Michel Al‐maqdissi et al.•ARTICLE•Paléorient•2006•Cited by: 8

Due to its special geological context and its specific soils, the basaltic region of southern Syria preserves exceptional architectural evidence. A three years survey (2003-2005) undertaken by a Syro-French team in the Leja area has revealed many Bronze Age sites, clarifying our understanding of the initial process of urbanization. Labwe is the most extraordinary of these sites. We have been able to make a complete plan of the urban site at the m…

  • Note sur les sondages réalisés par Robert Du Mesnil Du Buisson dans la Cour du sanctuaire de Bêl à Palmyre

    Michel Al Maqdissi•ARTICLE•Syria•2000
