Holocene Evolution of the Northeastern Corner of the Nile Delta
The constructive phase of the modern Nile Delta, as manifested in a 48-m section drilled east of the Suez Canal, commenced in very early Holocene times. Sands rich in marine fauna were deposited in the littoral zone and the shoreline was more than 20 km landward of its present-day position. Subsequently, clays and silts were dumped from the Nile distributaries and the marine faunal spectrum became very limited and brackish. Later in early and mid…

The Quaternary Stratigraphy and Paleogeography of Israel
The Quaternary stratigraphy and paleogeography of Israël is discussed in some detail, and suggestions for the correlation of the various rock and geomorphic units are presented. The Quaternary is divided into the Preglacial Pleistocene, during which the country inherited the previous flat-land morphology, dominated by fluvial activity and changing sea levels of the Calabrian and Sicilian. The only base levels in this period are the Mediterranean …
Palynostratigraphy of the subsurface carboniferous, Permian, and Triassic in southern Israel
Carboniferous, Permian, and Triassic sporomorphs from Zohar 8 and ‘Avdat 1 boreholes (southern Israel) are studied. Three assemblage zones, based on the distribution of sporomorphs, are established: the Punctatosporites minutus Zone, of Westphalian age, overlain unconformably by the Klausipollenites schaubergeri Zone of Thuringian age, and the Taeniaesporites kraeuseli Zone, of Triassic age, which overlies the Thuringian sediments and is overlain…
Preliminary palynological indications as to the climate of Israel during the last 6000 years
Palynological studies of radiocarbon dated cores collected from the Hula Lake and the Mediterranean offshore, and of samples collected from some archaeological sites in Israel seem to indicate that the vegetation and climate fluctuated during the last 6000 years. Two periods have been discerned in which the climate was apparently more humid than presently, the vegetation belts moved southwards and the share of olives in the natural maquis increas…
New excavations at the Tabun cave, Mount Carmel, Israel, 1967-1972
