Proto-Neolithic and Neolithic Cultures in the Middle East—the Birth of Agriculture, Livestock Raising, and Ceramics: A Calibrated 14 C Chronology 12,500-5500 cal BC
We present for the first time a fully calibrated radiocarbon chronology of Proto-Neolithic and Neolithic cultures in the Middle East covering the time range from 12,500 to 5500 cal BC. A total of 1300 14 C dates were evaluated, leading to the selection of 731 reliable dates. These were calibrated in a special collective approach presented in a series of graphs. The 14 C dates are derived from 160 sites across the Middle East. The period with Prot…
Lyon Natural Radiocarbon Measurements VIII
This list includes most of the measurements made in 1977 and 1978 using the two Packard liquid scintillation spectrometers described in Lyon VII (R, 1978, v 20, p 19). The backgrounds of both spectrometers decreased by about 30% with new photomultipliers, giving 1.9 ± 0.1cpm and 2.4 ± 0.2 cpm, respectively, for 3ml C 6 H 6 (depending on counting vessels). Proportional detectors are only used for very small samples. Counting procedures are describ…
Lyon Natural Radiocarbon Measurements VII
This list includes most of the measurements made in 1975 and 1976. Results lower than Ly-1000 are old measurements obtained with counters previously described, especially in R, 1973, v 15, p 134, when the laboratory was in the basement of the Nuclear Physics Institute. At the end of 1974 all the apparatus was transferred to a specially designed building with an isolated counting room overlain by 4m non-radioactive earth
Lyon Natural Radiocarbon Measurements VI
This list includes most of the samples measured during 1974 and most of those measured previously but not published in the preceding date list (R, 1975, v 17, p 4–34.)
Lyon Natural Radiocarbon Measurements V
This list includes most of the samples measured from June 1972 to December 1973 and some other results as yet unpublished
Lyon Natural Radiocarbon Measurements III
The present list includes most of the samples measured since the establishment of the laboratory in 1965 and not yet published in the two previous dates lists
Lyon Natural Radiocarbon Measurements IV
This list includes most of the samples measured from June 1970 to June 1972 and some other results not yet published in previous date lists
Lyon Natural Radiocarbon Measurements II
The Radiocarbon Dating Laboratory of the Department of Geology, University of Lyon, is going on with work since its foundation in 1965, in the basement of the Nuclear Physics Institute
Lyon Natural Radiocarbon Measurements I
The Radiocarbon Dating Laboratory was founded in 1965 by the Department of Geology, University of Lyon, to study the Late Quaternary geology of the Rhone-Alps Region, and to contribute to hydrogeologic and archaeologic studies. It has been installed in the basement of the Nuclear Physics Institute. Preparation began in 1966 and first dates obtained in June 1967
