Monetary Policy - the Way Forward
Various theoretical perspectives on the current macroeconomic development of advanced economies, indicating a slowdown in economic growth and labour productivity accompanied by very low inflation, are discussed. Mainstream opinion has been emphasizing the threat of se-cular stagnation, which would require much looser monetary policy compared to past decades. On the other hand, opinions pointing to the limits and risks of a long-term loose monetar…
Monetary Policy
Central banks of major advanced economies have already started their sixth year of the greatest ever experiment in monetary policy at place. First, special measures were taken to prevent collapse of financial intermediation. At the same time main policy rates were cut down to historical lows hitting the zero lower bound quite soon after the onset of the financial crisis. After that central banks realised various unconventional measures in order t…
Monetary Policy
The relatively long term period of stability before the present crises called even "Great Moderation" or "Golden Age of Central Banking" indicated that the infl ation targeting was a success story. As of 2008 a lot has changed and the debate over "Leaning against the wind or Clean afterwards?" is being revisited among central bankers and academicians. At the same time the question "Does money matter in monetary policy" is on the table again. This…
The czech economy after its entry into European Union
Economic growth of the Czech Republic differed strongly in two periods: 2001-2003 and 2004-2006. While in the first period the average annual rate of growth of GDP reached only 2,7 %, in the second period the growth accelerated to 5,7 %. The economic growth measured by the indicators of real income (namely of real gross domestic income) was faster. This was caused by positive contribution of the terms of trade. On the supply side the main contrib…

Special attendance is devoted to the scope and developments of the duality in the Czech economy, in particular in its key segment - manufacturing industry. The findings i…
Czech economy
2004, which was also the year of EU entry, was quite successful for the Czech economy. Economic growth accelerated, driven in particular by the investment demand and exports. After 10 years of permanent deficits, the trade balance deficit diminished significantly. The effects of EU entry, which opened new chances to the exporters, accompanied the positive impact of FDI inflows from the past. Due to acceleration of exports, industrial output regis…
Perspectives of czech economy after entry to the European union
Gradual narrowing of the gap between consumer and investment demand was one of major achievements of 2003, supporting the long-term sustainability of Czech economic growth. In the first half of 2004, industry and construction witnessed strong growth, retail trade showing a considerable slowdown. Growth in industry has continued to be more rapid in the sector of foreign controlled companies. After a slight weakening of deflation tendencies in the …
Year 2002
Slowdown of economic growth occurred as a consequence of overall European slowdown in 2002. The most reliable factor of Czech GDP growth has become private demand of households. The acceleration of Czech economic growth will be strongly determined by the timing and intensity of economic recovery in Western Europe which has been postponing ever since. Strong disinflation processes pressed the inflation rate to record low levels in the history of t…
