  • Abrasive wear in heat-treated ostrich eggshell beads: Implications for the Archaeological Record

  • Twelve tips for designing assignments that foster independence in learning

    Christen Rachul, B Collins et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Teacher•2021

Independent learning refers to opportunities in which responsibility for learning shifts to learners. Providing health professions learners with independent learning opportunities can be challenging because of the often highly structured curricula of health professions education. Structured independent learning assignments that give learners the opportunity to begin developing the skills and strategies to take on self-directed opportunities in th…

  • Environmental sustainability, decision-making, and management for mineral development in the Canadian Arctic

    B Collins, Benjamin C Collins et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

The Canadian Arctic is a complex and fragile region which is currently experiencing unprecedented environmental degradation due to climate change. The effects of climate change on the Canadian Arctic is just one example where we’re seeing the decline of ecosystems and socio-culture-environmental traditions. Mineral development in this already fragile ecosystem is indeed a contentious and high-risk endeavour. However, mining is currently one of th…

  • Fabric Analysis and Chronology at Ga-Mohana Hill North Rockshelter, Southern Kalahari Basin: Evidence for In Situ, Stratified Middle and Later Stone Age Deposits

    Open Access•J Wilkins, Benjamin J Schoville et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Paleolithic Archaeology•2020•Cited by: 9•References: 54

  • Chronostratigraphy, Site Formation, and Palaeoenvironmental Context of Late Pleistocene and Holocene Occupations at Grassridge Rock Shelter (Eastern Cape, South Africa)

    Open Access•C J H Ames, Luke A Gliganic et al.•ARTICLE•Open Quaternary•2020•Cited by: 19•References: 59

Grassridge rock shelter is located in the high elevation grassland foothills of the Stormberg Mountains in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. This places Grassridge at an important biogeoclimatic intersection between the Drakensberg Mountains, the South African coastal zone, and the interior arid lands of southern Africa. First excavated in 1979, the approximately 1.5 m stratigraphic sequence was divided into two major occupational components: a 5…

  • Beads and bead residues as windows to past behaviours and taphonomy: A case study from Grassridge Rockshelter, Eastern Cape, South Africa

  • Systematic review of the methods used in economic evaluations of targeted physical activity and sedentary behaviour interventions

    Open Access•Marie Cochrane, Paula M Watson et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2019

  • The Taphonomy of the Final Middle Stone Age Fauna from Sibudu Cave, South Africa: The Taphonomy of the Final MSA Fauna from Sibudu Cave, South Africa

    Open Access•B Collins, B R Collins•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2015•Cited by: 12•References: 36

This study applies a taphonomic analysis to the final Middle Stone Age faunal assemblage from Sibudu Cave, South Africa, by assessing bone surface modifications, breakage patterns and skeletal element abundances. Cut marks, percussion marks, severe fragmentation and the high frequency of burned bone combine to demonstrate that human behaviour was the principal agent in the assemblage's formation. These results are consistent with previous researc…

  • The Taphonomy and Subsistence Strategies from the Final Middle Stone Age Occupation at Sibudu Cave, South Africa

    B Collins, Ben Collin•ARTICLE•Azania Archaeological Research in…•2014

This study examined the faunal assemblage from Sibudu Cave, a final Middle Stone Age site in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. A two-part hierarchical method was employed, with the assemblage's taphonom

  • History of the Animal World in the Ancient near East

    B Collins•BOOK•History of the Animal World in…•2002

  • Excavation and Environmental Analysis of a Neolithic Mound and Iron Age Barrow Cemetery at Rathdooney Beg, County Sligo, Ireland

    Open Access•Charles Mount, C B Mount et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the Prehistoric…•1999•Cited by: 1•References: 15

Excavations and environmental analysis of a mound and two barrows indicate that activity commenced within the range 3930–3520 cal BC with the construction of a large mound enclosed by a substantial ditch on a drumlin which had been largely cleared to grassland. A pollen sequence recovered from the fosse indicates that the drumlin remained under grassland for some time. It was still under grassland in the Iron Age when a pair of sequential barrows…

  • Colorectal cancer in the north and south of Ireland 1950-1984

    Frank Kee, C Patterson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•1990•Cited by: 1•References: 15

STUDY OBJECTIVE--Northern Ireland has the highest standardised mortality ratios for colon cancer in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland has some of the highest mortality rates for cancer in the world. The aim of the study therefore was to investigate trends in colorectal cancer in the north and south of Ireland over the period 1950 to 1984. DESIGN--The study was a cohort analysis of deaths from colorectal cancer for ages 35-74 years by…
