  • A record of Late Pleistocene environmental conditions at the transition from central to southern Europe from the Baix loess paleosol sequence (Rhône Rift Valley, SE France)

Open Access•Nora Pfaffner, Annette Kadereit et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2026

Loess–paleosol sequences (LPSs) provide valuable archives of Quaternary paleoenvironments. Here we present new data from the Baix LPS, comprising the entire Late Pleistocene. The Baix LPS is located at the western edge of the Rhône Rift Valley, France, in the transition zone from the presently temperate to the Mediterranean region of Europe. This LPS provides a missing link between the analyzed LPSs in the presently temperate regions farther nort…

Between 2012 and 2015, five successive archaeological campaigns were led by the Department of archaeology of Eure-et-Loir, on the Illiers-Combray plateau, 1 km to the east of the river Loir. Middle Palaeolithic remains were discovered in a Pleistocene loess-palaeosoils sequence, extending over an area of more than 10 km 2 . This Early Weichselian site constitutes a major discovery, due to the good preservation of the artefacts and the sparse data…

  • Comparative 14 C and OSL dating of loess-paleosol sequences to evaluate post-depositional contamination of n -alkane biomarkers

Open Access•Michael Zech, Sebastian Kreutzer et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2017

There is an ongoing controversial discussion as to whether n- alkane lipid biomarkers—and organic matter of loess in general—reflect a synsedimentary paleoenvironmental/climate signal or whether they are significantly affected by postdepositional “contamination,” for example related to root and rhizomicrobial activity. In order to address this issue at our study site (the Middle to Late Weichselian loess-paleosol sequence Gleina in Saxony, German…

    Open Access•Margret C Fuchs, Sebastian Kreutzer et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2015

  • Late Pleistocene landscape dynamics in Saxony, Germany

Open Access•Sascha Meszner, Sebastian Kreutzer et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2013

  • The temporal and spatial quantification of Holocene sediment dynamics in a meso-scale catchment in northern Bavaria, Germany

    Open Access•M Fuchs, M Will et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2011•Cited by: 6•References: 9

The Aufsess River catchment (97 km 2 ) in northern Bavaria, Germany, is studied to establish a Holocene sediment budget and to investigate the sediment dynamics since the early times of farming in the third millennium BCE. The temporal characterization of the sediment dynamics is based on an intensive dating program with 73 OSL and 14 14 C ages. To estimate soil erosion and deposition, colluvial and alluvial archives are investigated in the field…
