  • Holocene glacier history of northeastern Cordillera Darwin, southernmost South America (55°S)

    Open Access•Scott A Reynhout, Michael R Kaplan et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2022

In the Cordillera Darwin, southernmost South America, we used 10 Be and 14 C dating, dendrochronology, and historical observations to reconstruct the glacial history of the Dalla Vedova valley from deglacial time to the present. After deglacial recession into northeastern Darwin and Dalla Vedova, by ~16 ka, evidence indicates a glacial advance at ~13 ka coeval with the Antarctic Cold Reversal. The next robustly dated glacial expansion occurred at…

  • Challenges in constraining ages of fluvial terraces in the Vienna Basin (Austria) using combined isochron burial and pIrir225 luminescence dating

    Open Access•Sandra M Braumann, Stephanie Neuhuber et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2019

Burial dating with terrestrial cosmogenic nuclides and luminescence dating techniques have become two powerful tools to temporally constrain Quaternary deposits. A combination of both methods at the same geological setting has rarely been realized to date, although their viable time frames overlap by several tens of thousands of years. When Middle Pleistocene sediments with depositional ages ranging around ca. 120 ka to ca. 300 ka are targeted, b…

  • Cosmogenic 10 Be dating of raised shorelines constrains the timing of lake levels in the eastern Lake Agassiz-Ojibway basin

    Open Access•Pierre-Marc Godbout, Pierre‐Marc Godbout et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2017

Surface exposure dating was applied to erosional shorelines associated with the Angliers lake level that marks an important stage of Lake Ojibway. The distribution of 15 10 Be ages from five sites shows a main group (10 samples) of coherent 10 Be ages yielding a mean age of 9.9±0.7 ka that assigns the development of this lake level to the early part of the Lake Ojibway history. A smaller group (3 samples) is part of a more scattered distribution …
