The spatial distribution of Chalcolithic settlements in the East Lower Danube Plain (SE Romania) shows markedly higher densities along small river valleys with low modern discharges, such as the Călmățui, Mostiștea, and Teleorman, which originate in the upper plains (150–300 m a.s.l.). In contrast, valleys of larger Carpathian-sourced rivers (e.g., Buzău, Ialomița, Argeș), host far fewer settlements. Our research explores whether these patterns r…

  • Radiocarbon Dating of Cremated bone samples from the Site of the Hungarian Church at Pauca, Sibiu County

Open Access•Ioan Marian Tiplic, Corina Anca Simion et al.•ARTICLE•PLURAL History Culture Society•2023

Archaeological research in the site of Pauca - Hungarian Church started in 2010, and between 2012-2023 has uncovered over 116 graves, some being simple cremation graves with a deposit of remains in the urn, others being double graves (with two urns) and one being a mixed double grave (incineration and inhumation). The dating of the five samples from the cemetery would suggest that the beginnings of the Păuca cemetery is contemporary with the late…

Nowadays the forgery of cultural heritage is on the rise, damaging the patrimony and its cultural value. Objects of value may still be unveiled at various construction sites or by other digging actions. Such objects will always raise questions about their authenticity because they were not unveiled by experts. Such findings will need to be analysed in order to establish their authenticity. The present study is aimed at establishing the authentici…

The aim of this paper is to present a series of discoveries attributed to the Turkic nomadic populations (11th– 12th centuries), resulting from archaeological research conducted in 2018 and 2019 in several burial mounds placed in the localities of Târgșoru Nou and Inotești from Prahova County, as well as Lunca from Buzău county. It includes descriptions of the investigated archaeological features, the results of the anthropological and archaeozoo…

  • Intervalidation of Dendrochronology and 14 C Dating on a 700-yr Tree-Ring Sequence Originating from the Eastern Carpathians

    Open Access•Gabriela O Sava, Ionel Popa et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2019•References: 21

We present a comparative study on a 700-yr sequence of dendrochronologically ordered tree-rings of Pinus cembra originating from Eastern Carpathians for the period AD 1009–1709. This period covers the solar minima of the Little Ice Age. The aim of this study was to assess the accuracy of our radiocarbon ( 14 C) determinations interpreted on the IntCal13 calibration data and to observe any apparent offsets. The 14 C measurements on single and doub…
