Care at the centre: Conceptualising the care and housing crises from an urban perspective
Care and housing are interrelated in daily practice, and profound crises have been observed in both areas. While policymakers and civil society pay significant attention to the housing crisis as a societal problem that must be collectively mitigated through diverse political measures, the care crisis still largely falls on households, families and institutions. To address the connections between these fields, this paper provides a theoretical fra…

Gender Equality in the Field of Care: Policy Goals and Outcomes During the Merkel Era
Since the beginning of Angela Merkel's chancellorship, German care policy changed considerably. Social policy has gained in prominence and this has affected people with caring responsibilities. Against this background, this paper compares childcare and elderly care policies in terms of gender equality. We focus on policy measures introduced and implemented during the Merkel era and we consider Chancellor Merkel's role in shaping these policies. B…
Rainbow family, insemination family, multi-parent family: These terms try to understand the phenomenon that parenthood and family are realized in diverse constellations. They are caught between empirical diversity and societal norms and norms. The articles in the special issue explore the family forms of lesbian two-parent families, trans * and co-parenting, non-monogamous relationship networks as well as queer relationship networks in the contex…
Little children are not for dad's?’ Challenging and undoing hegemonic masculinity
Studies on work and organizations state that traditional gendered cultures support hegemonic masculinity and obstruct an engaged form of ‘new’ fathering. Not only do employers hinder fathers in sharing equally in childcare, but the dynamics within the couple also matter. An examination of the negotiations within couples regarding paid and unpaid work reveals the need to revise conceptualizations of masculinity, with a focus on undoing masculinity…
Geschlecht und Arbeit
Involvierte“ Väter zwischen Beruf und Familie. Zur Re/Produktion von Männlichkeiten in paarinternen Aushandlungen
Starting from the hypothesis discussed in research on masculinities and fathering that ‘involved’ fathering is incompatible with hegemonic masculinity, this paper examines continuity and change in interrelating work and family life by German fathers. Within the sociological frame of interaction theory on un/doing masculinity I focused on the production and presentation of gender differences and the hierarchizing demarcation against femininity and…
