  • Beyond the technology-centric and citizen-centric binary: Ontological politics of organizing in Translation of the Smart City Discourse in India

Open Access•Harsh Mittal, George Kandathil et al.•ARTICLE•Organization•2024

Smart city (SC) experts in India often center-stage citizens as an alternative to a technology-led transformation. A substantial body of literature on smart cities sustains this resultant binary between techno-centrism and citizen-centrism. Mobilizing ANT sensibilities, we generate an ethnographic narrative on how the smart city discourse has translated into everyday processes of city administration and urban governance in India. Our account unmu…

Open Access•Harsh Mittal, Anamika Sarker et al.•ARTICLE•Teaching and Learning Anthropology•2024

    Rama Mohana R Turaga, Harsh Mittal•ARTICLE•Policy & Politics•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 16

This article provides an important international empirical application of the multiple-streams framework with some theoretical additions that make a novel contribution to the existing scholarship in this field. Using a modified multiple-streams approach (MSA) that extends Kingdon’s original agenda setting model to the decision-making stage, we analyse and explain an empirical puzzle in the context of the environmental regulation of coal-fired pow…

  • Discursive politics and policy (im)mobility: Metro-TOD policies in India

    Open Access•Harsh Mittal, Arpit Shah•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning C…•2021•Cited by: 2•References: 12

Large investments in metro systems, supported through a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) regime, have become the preferred policy option to achieve sustainable and inclusive urban mobility in India. In this paper, we examine the particular practices and power relations through which metro-TOD policies have emerged and gained discursive dominance in India’s urban transport policies. We do so by bringing together urban policy mobilities (UPM) and…

  • A hmedabad/ Gift City

Open Access•Navdeep Mathur, Harsh Mittal et al.•CHAPTER•The Wiley Blackwell Encyclopedia…•2019

Ahmedabad is India's seventh largest city, and host to a cluster of some prominent academic and industrial institutions. From its establishment in 1411, its sultans pioneered a legacy of fine architecture in mosques, temples, and traditional neighborhoods. That trend today is exemplified in modernist buildings by Louis Kahn, Le Corbusier, and Charles Correa among others. In the mid‐twentieth century it was a thriving industrial town, but in the f…
