  • Translating the Sound of Music

    Open Access•Michael Mopas, Amelia Curran•ARTICLE•Canadian Journal of Law and…•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 3

In music copyright infringement cases, forensic musicologists are often called to testify as to whether or not two songs are ‘substantially similar.’ While it is standard practice to rely on experts to dissect the works in question, this is a fairly recent phenomenon. Until the 1950s, it was not the scientific analysis of the pieces, but the impressions they left on the ‘untrained ears’ of everyday listeners that was used to determine copyright i…

  • Neoliberal restructuring, limited autonomy, and relational distance in Manitoba’s nonprofit field

    Open Access•A Woolford, Amelia Curran•ARTICLE•Critical Social Policy•2011•Cited by: 3•References: 28

This article draws on the work of Pierre Bourdieu to describe the nonprofit field. We highlight the ways in which the neoliberal restructuring of the nonprofit field has introduced new market conditions and valuational standards that have compelled social service providers within this field to adapt to or resist its structural transformation. Our study is focused on social service providing nonprofit agencies in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where the limi…
