Mission and the Ephesian Moment of World Christianity
The historic 1910 Edinburgh missionary conference was a watershed moment for world Christianity as it established a framework for international cooperation in the task of bringing the whole gospel to the whole world.’ That goal has more or less been realized. The most Christianized country in Africa became the site of its worst genocide. With a mother who was a Hutu and a father who wa…
Violence and Social Imagination
In this article the author argues that the greatest challenge facing Christians In Africa has to do with the cultivation of new social imaginations that can both resist and provide alternatives to the ever-increasing phenomenon of violence. This argument is only spelt out more explicitly …
Postmodern Illusions and the Challenges of African Theology
Contemporary African theological reflection has not sufficiently paid attention to the reality of postmodernism in general, its cultural expressions in particular. In this essay, I depict some of the illusions of a postmodern culture and how their power to shape the economic, cultural and imaginative visions of Africans remains one of the key theological challenges. Accordingly, the crucial test for African theology today will be whether it can g…
