Open Access•Sudipta Roy, Nimesh B Patel et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Transport Geography•2026

Children's independent mobility (CIM) is linked to higher physical activity in cross-sectional research, but longitudinal assessments of correlates of changes in CIM are lacking. We investigated social-ecological correlates of changes in CIM during the COVID-19 pandemic and whether they differ by gender. Every six months between December 2020 and 2021, we surveyed Canadian parents of 7- to 12-year-olds ( n = 2291) to assess mobility licenses (chi…

Sudipta Roy, Sampriti Singha Roy et al.•ARTICLE•Economic and political…•2025

As 400 acres of biodiverse habitat face auction for IT development in Hyderabad, hundreds of animal species confront an existential crisis largely absent from public discourse. We examine the University of Hyderabad land dispute through frameworks of literary animal studies and posthumanist philosophy, revealing how anthropocentric notions of ownership and progress render invisible the complex ecological relationships that constitute place. Chris Seiple, Katherine Marshall et al.•ARTICLE•The Review of Faith & International…•2021•Cited by: 3•References: 20

This essay introduces a special, open-access issue of this journal focused on the intersection of religion and relief & development. It describes the discussions—of terminology and tangibility, of perspective and practice—that shaped the research done for the “Evidence-Based Summit on Strategic Religious Engagement,” a conference organized and hosted October 5–8, 2020 by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). This special issue cons…

Open Access•Katherine Marshall, Sudipta Roy et al.•ARTICLE•The Review of Faith & International…•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 20

Strategic religious engagement in relief & development efforts requires: a careful country assessment, establishing appropriate principles of engagement, and defining priority sectors and institutions (possibly including multireligious platforms equipped to serve as intermediaries). Important factors to take into account include: (a) a risk assessment; (b) review of information sources and gaps; (c) understanding religion-state relationships; (d)…

  • Religious Engagement in Development

Open Access•Katherine Marshall, Sudipta Roy et al.•ARTICLE•The Review of Faith & International…•2021•Cited by: 3•References: 27

Religious involvement in humanitarian aid and development takes countless forms, varying by country, traditions, and sector. Research and operational evaluations have expanded in recent years, with some sectors far better documented than others, notably health and peacebuilding. There are, however, substantial gaps in evidence, most significantly regarding local and non-formal involvement. Pandemic preparedness and response are critical issues re…

  • Intrinsic and Strategic Leverage of Religion in Development

Open Access•Katherine Marshall, Sudipta Roy et al.•ARTICLE•The Review of Faith & International…•2021•Cited by: 2•References: 26

Strategic religious engagement (SRE) is important for five main reasons: (a) the direct and significant contributions of religious actors to humanitarian assistance and development, not least their high levels of trust and access, and their distinctive contributions to spiritual care; (b) The local presence and knowledge of faith-based organizations (FBOs) and religious communities that are critical to self-reliance; (c) the significant if often …

  • Faith and education in Bangladesh

Open Access•Sudipta Roy, Samia Huq et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Relationships between religious beliefs, institutions, educational strategies, and delivery pose practical challenges for policy makers in all countries. They have particular significance today in Bangladesh given the national and regional developments that shine light on religious roles within national identity and minority communities. Challenges range from coordination of different systems for purposes of employment credentials, equity, and qu…
