  • Real Sexual Harassment”

Open Access•Linnéa Wegerstad, Ulrika Andersson et al.•ARTICLE•Violence Against Women•2025•References: 5

This article presents findings from a quantitative analysis of 215 case files regarding incidents of the crime of sexual molestation reported to the Swedish Police. We track the incidents through the criminal justice system and show a clearance rate of 9%. The clearance rate is higher when the attack is of a physical nature, the suspect is a stranger, and the incident occurs in a public place. While the statutory definition of sexual molestation …

  • The Only Path to Justice

    Open Access•Linnéa Wegerstad, Ulrika Andersson•ARTICLE•Feminist Legal Studies•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 10

This article presents a study of court judgments involving women who, in connection with #MeToo, identified alleged perpetrators of sexual violence in social media and were later prosecuted for and convicted of criminal defamation in Sweden. We conceptualise the use of social media to share experiences of sexual violence as an informal path to justice. First, we show that this is supported by how court judgments describe women’s reasons for shari…

  • After #MeToo

    Open Access•Ulrika Andersson, Lena Karlsson et al.•ARTICLE•Feminist Legal Studies•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 3

While Me Too originated in Tarana Burke's grassroots programme working with black and minoritised women and girls experiencing sexual violence, and which focussed on health, welfare and support, the intensity of the global #MeToo movement after 2017 shed unprecedented visibility on the ubiquity of sexual violence and questions of what constitutes justice.Through networked acts of witnessing and demands for structural change, as well as much media…

  • Migrating Young Unaccompanied Children and the Mobile Commons

    Open Access•Ulrika Andersson•ARTICLE•International Journal for the…•2023

In this article I call for an awareness of the mobile commons– the informal support that exists among migrating people, NGOs, and activists – in relation to the realization of family reunification. Taking its point of departure in a concrete case of family reunification for young unaccompanied children, the article seeks to expose how the traditional legal notion of the liberal subject fails to provide protection in the context of legal practice.…

  • Sexual harassment among employees and students at a large Swedish university

Open Access•Anette Agardh, Gisela Priebe et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

The results indicate that sexual harassment is common in the university context, and interventions and case management routines of events should consider power relations between victim and perpetrator, as well as the various contexts within which sexual harassment takes place

  • The body and the deed. Places of rape in Swedish court narratives

    Open Access•Ulrika Andersson•ARTICLE•Gender and Women s Studies•2021

A fundamental starting point for this article is that place in a broad sense is a crucial, yet forgotten, dimension in the legal analysis of rape. Therefore, in this study I ask what role place has in the adjudication of rape; in the interpretation of rape law as well as in the evaluation of evidence. I analyze three Swedish rape cases, two from the Supreme Court, marking out the sexual act of rape, and one case from an appellate court, applying …

  • Conditional Autonomy

    Open Access•Amanda Waldenström, Jenny Wiik et al.•ARTICLE•Journalism Practice•2018•Cited by: 2•References: 11

Current developments in the Swedish news business have resulted in clashes between the professional stands of journalists and the incentives of their managers, or—from a theoretical perspective—a confrontation between discourses of journalistic professionalism and managerialism. While professionalism includes values of autonomy, self-regulation and public interest, managerialism on the other hand promotes business ideals, standardisation and orga…

  • Vulnerability, Agency and the Ambivalence of Place in Narratives of Rape in Three High-Profile Swedish Cases

    Open Access•Ulrika Andersson, Monika Edgren•ARTICLE•NORA - Nordic Journal of Feminist…•2018•Cited by: 3•References: 8

For decades, the media have frequently been instrumental in framing rape cases by linking the deed with the place. This study demonstrates that law courts are not innocent of such social framing; on the contrary, they are significant agents. We argue that courts, by shaping the plot in rape cases, participate in an ongoing cultural production of meaning, although in a more subtle and ambivalent way than the media. In a narrative analysis of three…

  • Public interest or self-interest? How journalism attracts future journalists

Ulrika Andersson, Ingela Wadbring•ARTICLE•Journal of Media Practice•2015•Cited by: 3•References: 15

Since the 1990s, Western society and its media have veered towards increased market orientation. In this process, values of individualisation and self-interest have emerged as important patterns. Research has shown that media professionals have become slightly more commercially oriented over time, although public interest remains the most important factor when the duties of journalism are fulfilled. What can be said, however, about the journalist…

  • The impact of healthier dietary scenarios on the global blue water scarcity footprint of food consumption in the UK

  • Journalism Meets Management

    Ulrika Andersson, Jenny Wiik•ARTICLE•Journalism Practice•2013•Cited by: 2•References: 11

The development of news production over the last decade has accentuated the negotiation between two forces of change: professional discourse and managerial discourse. The first characterizes journalistic identity by normative ideals and serves to legitimize journalists as an autonomous and self-regulating group. Managerial discourse, on the other hand, expresses the globalization of values and economy in the labour market, as well as in the area …

  • From Broadsheet to Tabloid

    Open Access•Ulrika Andersson•ARTICLE•Observatorio (OBS•2013•Cited by: 4•References: 14

During the early 2000s, the newspaper market in Northern Europe was characterised by a trend of format changes as many broadsheets have chosen to adapt to the tabloid format. Similar tendencies also have emerged in other Western countries, making it a transnational phenomenon. Critics have argued that a reduced size impacts the content, resulting in increased tabloidisation, finding a connection between the page size and the news content whereby …

  • Vara till salu. Utsatthet vid människohandel - individer, strukturer och diskurser

    Open Access•Ulrika Andersson•ARTICLE•Tidskrift för genusvetenskap•2009

The focus of this article is the criminal legal subject, traditionally presumed to be rational and autonomous. The object of the criminal legal process is to decide individual responsibility. Therefore, in relation to criminality explicitly based on certain structures, a conflict between the individual subject and these structural factors can occur. For example, the crime of human trafficking is constructed in relation to vulnerability based on s…
