Not for the World of Theorizing But for the Need of Knowledge in the Nursing Discipline
Research networks have significant value and are essential for conducting high-quality applied health research. In this article, we describe the establishment, content, and contribution of a Danish national qualitative interpretive description (ID) network. There are only a few examples of clinical research networks and in most qualitative research methodology is not highly prioritized. Still, a number of nurses and allied health professionals wo…
A Photo Elicitation Study on Chronically Ill Adolescents’ Identity Constructions During Transition
Adolescence is an important phase of life with increasing independence and identity development, and a vulnerable period of life for chronically ill adolescents with a high occurrence of insufficient treatment adherence. We conducted four photo elicitation focus group interviews with 14 adolescents (12-20 years) with juvenile idiopathic arthritis to investigate identity constructions during transition. Using a discourse analysis approach, six ide…
Informal work and formal plans
Work done by patients was invisible and not perceived as work. The patients' requests were not sufficiently supported in the professional organisation of work or formal planning. Patients' insertion and use of information in their trajectories challenged professional views and working processes. And the design of the formal pathway models limits the patients' active participation. When looking at integrated care from the perspective of patients, …
When the spiral of action research collapses
In the spiral of action research all participants are expected to work together towards a continuously developing fulfillment of the aims of the project. The data collection is supposed to lead to critical reflection, strategy development, and implementation in cycles, actively involving all participants and researchers. However, communicating processes that go wrong can be difficult. Facing the final communication of an action research project o…
(Re)constructing strategies
The article describes an experiment in which two researchers engaged in developing poetic forms of representing qualitative empirical research switch their individually produced empirical material and work simultaneously on each other's products. The intention is to investigate what we, as researchers, are adding to and extracting from the empirical material in poetical processing. It may be that the condensed, poetic texts can be seen as primari…
Poethical
Departing from a methodological experiment performed by the authors, this article reflects on and discusses issues of ethics and politics in poetic strategies of ‘representation’. In relation to the experiment the article questions how to conceive the notion of connectedness between empirical time and the reconstruction of it in poststructuralist research. In continued reflection the article elaborates on the meaning and status of body and emotio…
