  • Experiences of Japanese Men During the Transition to Fatherhood

    Open Access•Hiroko Iwata•ARTICLE•Journal of Transcultural Nursing•2014

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand the meaning of the lived experience of Japanese men during the transition to fatherhood. Design: Hermeneutic phenomenology was used. Participants were 12 Japanese men who had a first-time healthy child younger than 1 year of age, who were sought by using a purposeful sampling technique. Findings: The following six themes were identified: (1) feeling like a father; (2) realizing oneself as a hus…

  • A Concept Analysis of the Role of Fatherhood

    Open Access•Hiroko Iwata•ARTICLE•Journal of Transcultural Nursing•2003

A concept analysis of the father's role is presented from a Japanese perspective. To conceptualize the term father's role, the process for concept analysis was employed. The analysis resulted in a definition of the term and four defining attributes. Two dimensions of the father's role emerged as being most commonly used or implied: a behavioral dimension and a consequential dimension. Each of these dimensions had another four subcategories in ter…

  • Relationship between the Patterns of Locomotor Development and the Baby-care Environment

    Open Access•Hiroko Iwata•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•1993

This study attempts to clarify the factors of baby-care environment hat are related to determining the pattern of locomotor development. First, the chisquare test was applied to the questionnaire data answered by the parents of 207 children who showed either the “prone-predisposed” or the “erect-predisposed” locomotion during early infancy. Among ten factors, the one that was not independent of the pattern of the locomotor development was the use…

  • Patterns of Locomotor Development in Japanese Children during Early Infancy

    Open Access•Hiroko Iwata•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1991

By applying the quantification method of the third type to the questionnairedata answered by the parents of 395 children, an analysis was made of the typical body motions, such as turning, crawling, creeping and shuffling, and their frequencies observed in infancy. A close distribution was observed in the category scores of highfrequency crawling, high-frequency creeping, high-frequency turning and lowfrequency shuffling. Therefore, these categor…

  • A study on the movement pattern of the four limbs in long distance running

    Open Access•Hiroko Iwata•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1989

  • A study on the coordination pattern of four limbs in creeping, running and walking in early childhood

    Open Access•Hiroko Iwata•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1983

The purpose of this study was to clalify the development of locomotor movement in early childhood analyzing the coordination patterns of four limbs in motion. The coordination patterns of four limbs were defined as "backward cross type", " forward cross type", both of which named by IWAMOTO and TOMITA (1966), and synchronized cross type. To observe the movement sequence of four limbs of children, an experiment was designed employing creeping, run…
