  • Millennia of Mitochondrial Change

Open Access•Ingrida Domarkienė, Indrė Krastinaitė et al.•ARTICLE•Heritage•2025•References: 4

Background: A comprehensive temporal analysis of mtDNA haplogroup variation across Lithuanian history remains limited. This study investigates the mtDNA variation landscape during the Iron Age by comparing newly reported Iron Age individual mtDNA data with the new data from present-day Lithuanians. Methods: Remains of individuals from the Iron Age Lithuania (n = 101) were processed using standard protocols for ancient DNA processing. For the pres…

  • Psychological distress 35 years after the Chornobyl accident in the Lithuanian clean-up workers

Open Access•Evaldas Kazlauskas, Giedrė Smailytė et al.•ARTICLE•Global Health Action•2023

The adverse effects on the health of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant accident clean-up workers have been reported previously. However, there is a lack of studies on the mental health of Chornobyl clean-up workers. The current study explored psychological distress in a sample of Lithuanian clean-up workers 35 years after the accident. In total, 107 Lithuanian Chornobyl clean-up workers (Mage = 62.5) and 107 controls were included in the study. T…

  • Mapping genomic loci implicates genes and synaptic biology in schizophrenia

Open Access•Vassily Trubetskoy, Antonio F Pardiñas et al.•ARTICLE•Nature•2022

  • Recent effective population size estimated from segments of identity by descent in the Lithuanian population

Open Access•Alina Urnikytė, Alma Molytė et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•2017

The effective population size (Ne) quantifies the rate at which genetic diversity is eroded by genetic drift, a fundamental process of evolutionary change, and also provides an insight into the demographic history and dynamics of modern human populations. The main interest of this study was to reconstruct the recent effective population size, by using inferred long segments of identity by descent (IBD), and to estimate the effective/census size r…

  • Ancient human genomes suggest three ancestral populations for present-day Europeans

Open Access•Iosif Lazaridis, Nick Patterson et al.•ARTICLE•Nature•2014

  • Y-Chromosomal Diversity in Europe Is Clinal and Influenced Primarily by Geography, Rather than by Language

Open Access•Zoë H Rosser, Tatiana Zerjal et al.•ARTICLE•The American Journal of Human…•2000

  • Human mitochondrial DNA variation in Lithuania

    Vaidutis Kučinskas•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•1994

Variation in mitochondrial DNA (mt-DNA) was studied in a population sample of 154 Lithuanians after cleavage with 15 different restriction endonucleases and probing with cat mt-DNA. Polymorphic variations were found with 8 restriction endonucleases. The most frequent mt-DNA cleavage patterns (morphs) were HpaI-2 (98.7%), BamHI-1 (94.8%), HaeII-1 (91.0%), MspI-1 (99.3%), AvaII-1 (86.4%), and HincII-2 (99.4%). The morph HaeII-12 previously describe…
