The Economic and Environmental Effects of a Green Employer of Last Resort
We assess the sectoral impact of the implementation of a "green" employer of last resort (ELR) program in the US, based on an environmental modification of an extended Kurz's (1985) multiplier framework and data from OECD Input-Output tables. We use these multipliers to estimate the impact of an "optimal" ELR, designed to maximize the impact on both output and employment while minimizing both imports and carbon emissions. We then test several alt…
The Covid-19 multiplier effects of tourism on the Greek economy
Using a multisectoral model and data from the Supply and Use Tables, this article estimates the COVID-19 multiplier effects of tourism on gross domestic product (GDP), total employment, and trade balance of the Greek economy. The results indicate that a—not-unexpected—decrease of international travel receipts in the range of 3.5 to 10.5 billion euros would lead to a decrease in GDP of about 2.0% to 6.0%, a decrease in the levels of employment of …
Inter-sectoral analysis of the Greek economy and the Covid-19 multiplier effects
Using a multi-sector model, with joint-products and heterogeneous labour, and data from the Supply and Use Tables, this paper analyses the inter-sectoral structure of the Greek economy and estimates the COVID-19 multiplier effects on this economy. It is found that the economy is heavily dependent on imports of industrial commodities, while significant multiplier effects are concentrated, primarily, in services and, secondarily, in the primary pro…

Bienenfeld's Approximation of Production Prices and Eigenvalue Distribution
This paper tests Bienenfeld's polynomial approximation of production prices using data from ten symmetric input–output tables of five European economies. The empirical results show that the quadratic formula works extremely well and the degree of its accuracy is connected to the actual distribution of the eigenvalues of the matrices of vertically integrated technical coefficients. It then follows that the number of vertically integrated industrie…
