The Dentition of the Aurignacian Mandible Les Rois 2, France
New Late Middle Pleistocene human remains at the Payre site (Marine Isotopic Stage 7, Ardèche, Southeast France)
Infant-carrying mechanisms in a natural environment
Infant carrying and more generally load carrying may impact bipedal locomotion and thus the energy cost of the daily activities, in living people but also in our ancestors. In order to improve our knowledge of infant carrying strategies we investigate the biomechanics of infant carrying in a non-mechanised group. The Qashqai are nomadic people who still carry loads and infants habitually without any daily assistance in varied natural environments…

Kinematics and spatiotemporal parameters of infant‐carrying in olive baboons
In the field of biomechanics of quadrupedal locomotion in primates, infant‐carrying has received little attention. This study presents the first biomechanical study of infant‐carrying in captive female olive baboons ( Papio anubis ). We test whether females carrying infants conform 1) to the Support Polygon Model (Rollinson and Martin: Symp Zool Soc Lond 48 (1981) 377–427) of gait selection, according to which diagonality should decrease when the…
