Intertemporal budget constraint and current account sustainability
This paper examines the sustainability of the current account deficit (CAD) and validity of the intertemporal budget constraint of India for the period of 1980 to 2019. The cointegration results show that exports and imports are not cointegrated and the current account (CA) series is not mean reverting during the study period. Therefore, the results refute the sustainability of CAD and the validity of the intertemporal budget constraint in the In…

Dynamic relationship between fiscal deficit and current account deficit in India
This study examines the dynamic relationship between fiscal balance and current account balance and also tests the 'twin deficit' hypotheses for India using quarterly data from 1996q1 to 2016q1. Empirical results support the existence of the twin deficit hypothesis and also suggest a reverse causality running from the current account balance to fiscal balance. These results have important policy implications for maintaining a lower current accoun…
Factors influencing India's current account balance
Using annual data for the period 1980–1981 to 2014–2015, the study explores the impact of crude oil imports and real exchange rate on India's current account performance. Utilizing the recent co‐integration econometric tools on a current account balance model, the findings contrary to the theoretical prediction revealed that crude oil import significantly improves the current account balance in the long run. Furthermore, the fiscal balance and fi…
