Defining Rural
Public agencies and other funding organizations have often defined rural in reference to “urban” and using parameters such as population density, access to cities, and distance to market areas. Using such definitions of rurality within the context of K-12 education as a way to support these systems is challenging because of the diverse geographic and socio-cultural identities of these places despite a common “rural” designation. This study aims t…
Preparing undergraduates for the post-pandemic workplace
When schools and universities across the world transitioned online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ed+gineering, a National Science Foundation (NSF) project that partners engineering and education undergraduates to design and deliver engineering lessons to elementary students, also had to shift its hands-on lessons to a virtual format. Through the lens of social cognitive theory (SCT), this study investigates engineering and education students’ exp…
Undergraduate Engineering and Education Students Reflect on Their Interdisciplinary Teamwork Experiences Following Transition to Virtual Instruction Caused by Covid-19
This study explores undergraduate engineering and education students’ perspectives on their interdisciplinary teams throughout the rapid transition to online learning and instruction from a face-to-face to a virtual format. In this qualitative study, students’ reflections and focus groups from three interdisciplinary collaborations were analyzed using the lens of Social Cognitive Theory. COVID-19 created a dramatic change in the environment such …
Comparative Analysis of Gender Differences in Satisfaction with School Wall Removal and Greening - A Case Study of an Elementary School in Daegu Metropolitan City
To examine the gender differences in satisfaction of elementary school students with school wall removal and greening, a survey was carried out targeting 168 sixth grade students (92 boys and 76 girls) of an elementary school in Daegu Metropolitan City, Korea. As a result, the students were generally satisfied with wall removing and greening, and gave their higher marks in school's image promotion (4.24), school landscape improvements (4.21), and…
Neuroprotective effect of SuHeXiang Wan in Drosophila models of Alzheimer's disease
The Role of Microtubule in the Regulation of Endochondral Bone Formation in the Developing Mouse Cranial Base
Endochondral bone formation of the developing cranial base is a complex process. This mechanism requires precise orchestration of many cellular events and cartilage matrix metabolism, such as proliferation, becoming round in shape, termination of proliferation, hypertrophic size-increase, and finally programmed cell death. Active formation and degradation of cartilage matrix take place, in which microtubules are involved for intracellular events;…
